【Foreign Language Retention Program】
Japan Overseas Educational Services (hereafter JOES) provides educational programs to support children and families who are going abroad, staying abroad and who have returned to Japan.
The Foreign Language Retention Program is one of our programs provided to Japanese returnees of elementary through junior high school age to retain and develop their English or French ability. There are nine JOES schools in Japan; four in Tokyo, one each in Yokohama, Funabashi, Nagoya, Osaka, and Kobe, where over 1,400 returnee students are attending and more than 30 teachers are teaching.
We are looking for professional English teachers in the Tokyo, Yokohama and Nagoya areas.

Job Description |
- The students have all lived and been educated overseas.
- The focus of the class is to develop the students' reading and writing skills.
- The classes are taught entirely in English in an atmosphere that resembles a regular school class overseas (USA, UK, Australia, international school, etc.).
- The classes are divided into four groups by grade, 2nd, 3rd & 4th, 5th & 6th, and 7th, 8th & 9th grades. These groups are then divided into further groups by ability.
- JOES will provide the core materials for your classes, but we expect our teachers to be able to develop their own suitable materials over time and to be able to plan their lessons in advance for each term.

Qualifications |
- We are looking for professional English teachers who have a long term commitment to Japan and who can commit themselves to working on Saturdays in our academic year.
- Experience and an enthusiasm for teaching children from second grade to ninth grade is an advantage.
- A teaching license is an advantage.
- A suitable visa. We do not provide sponsorship for visas.

Working Hours |
You will be scheduled three or four lessons between 9:30-17:30 on Saturdays. One lesson will be 90 minutes. |
Academic year 2010 |
- Term 1; April10 to July10.
- Term 2; September11 to December11
- Term 3; January8 to March12

Payment |
The payment is dependent on experience. Round-trip transportation from your home to the school will be paid for each school day. |
Selection |
At first please submit your resume and a covering letter detailing why you would be a suitable teacher for 'returnee' students.
Those selected for an interview will be interviewed in Tokyo or Nagoya as appropriate.

| Guide to Japan Overseas Educational Services (JOES) |
As Japan has become increasingly active in international affairs, the number of Japanese working overseas has risen rapidly. Consequently, over 50,000 Japanese children of school age are now living outside Japan with their parents on overseas assignment.
In order to meet the demands of educating these children, there are currently 88full-time Japanese schools and 205 weekend supplementary schools throughout the world. Since the issue of overseas education is highly important to those who work overseas and the future of Japan itself, the Japanese government has been taking steps to improve the educational standards of these schools. However, restrictions such as those nation's education law, policy and funding can inhibit the implementation of such measures.
Japan Overseas Educational Services (JOES) was established through the initiative of Japanese corporations as a non-profit, private organization aimed at promoting the education of Japanese children abroad in accordance with the government's policy of overseas education. Many corporations and organizations engaged in overseas business activities have come together to establish this foundation.
JOES was officially founded on January 29, 1971 as a non-profit foundation with the approval of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Education. Since then, it has made significant contributions in promoting the education of Japanese children overseas.
